Anyone interested in helping with the painting of the quilt squares is invited to attend work sessions which are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10 a.m. at the Extension Center, 230 Duncannon Lane, Richmond, Kentucky. Come join the fun!  It’s just like an old-fashioned quilting bee—but easy enough that anyone can help and have a good time.

For more information on the Madison County Quilt Project, call the Extension Center at 869-623-4072 or the Madison County Conservation District at 859-624-1981.

The Quilt Trail project has enjoyed the support of many local organizations and businesses.  Lowe's was one of the original donors and continues to provide a discount for all of our paint. Mark Kenner, carpentry instructor for the Madison County Area Technology Center, has given construction advice and has built racks to store “quilts in progress.”  “Seed money” has been provided by the Madison County Fiscal Court, Richmond City Government, Madison County Farm Bureau Federation and through a grant from the

Kentucky Foundation for Women.  Staff support has been provided by Thoroughbred RC & D, Madison County Conservation District and the Madison County Cooperative Extension Service.  Special thanks goes to Bluegrass Energy which has assigned work crews to hang the quilts throughout the county.

The Madison County Extension Homemakers have taken part in painting most of the quilts and continue to work on obtaining funds to further the project. Also, quilts have been painted by McCready Manor residents and by students at Madison Central, Madison Southern, Berea Community and Mayfield Elementary. Alison Fox, math teacher at Madison Central, has used the project as a way to teach geometry to her students, and children at Mayfield have painted squares using original student designs.
