Energy Calculators
This page has links to numerous calculator that allow you to
determine and compare different energy sources, efficiency, etc. These calculator use JavaScript which must be enabled on your browser.
Energy Savings - This calculator allows you to determine what you can invest in energy savings measures. You will need the following information: Estimated Initial Yearly Savings, Interest Rate on Money, Energy Inflation Rate, and the Current Energy Price. The calculator will then show the amount you can invest for a payback period from 1 to 20 years. You can also print the results.
Fuel Price Comparison - This calculator compares several common sources of energy and their cost. One can adjust the cost of natural gas, electricity, etc. depending on the local particular cost of such source and compare it to the other available sources and see if their costs are higher or lower. You will need to have an idea of the furnace efficiencies for various fuelsb, and the cost of at least one of the fuels. You can also print the results.
Natural Gas Furnace to Heat Pump Conversion - This calculator allows you to determine the savings that could occur by installing a heat pump in a home now heated by a natural gas furnace. You will need the following information: Cost of electricity, Cost of Natural Gas, Furnace Efficiency, Heat Pump COP, and the Amount of Gas used in an Average Heating Season. You can also print the results.
